2015 Elephant Hill Merlot Malbec
Elephant Hill is a family owned winery estate making premium, hand crafted wines. For our Merlot Malbec 2015, it was a great year with a cool start and good flowering resulting in a good fruit set. The grapes were hand harvested in 5 different picks starting in the first week of April.
This is a blend of 74% Merlot, 24% Malbec from our Gimblett Gravel Vineyard and 2% of Tempranillo from our Triangle Vineyard. The grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented in numerous small batch ferments then gently pressed to oak barriques. The wine received 20 months in French oak, 38% new. Only 23 barrels were produced.
This wine displays rich, ripe dark fruit, well-balanced acidity and beautiful tannin. It is an elegant wine with a core of ripe fruit and excellent structure.
