Loads of green things coming out of here! Mint, cucumber, green fruit, grapefruit and just a touch of smoke at the back. Dave Broom got yuzu…I’ve never heard of yuzu….

Light, delicate, refreshing and some subtle smoke.

  • COMMENTS

This is so easy to drink. It’s fresh, easy going (almost too easy) and just divine. I wrote delicious at the top and circled it! That’s a big thumb up in my world.

Description

Japanese label, Hakushu is “the mountain forest distillery,” located deep in the forest of Japan’s Southern Alps. It is embraced for its herbal, gently smoky flavour. The innovation in Hakushu Distiller’s Reserve comes from using a lightly peated malt whisky as its “young talent.” This is a first in the Hakushu Range. Typically, lightly peated malt whiskies would lose their smokiness while gaining complexity during the ageing process. However, for this “young talent” whisky, Hakushu’s maturation process comes from its unique forest environment, allowing it to retain both characteristics along with a fresh and crisp taste. The blenders added Hakushu heavily peated malt whiskies to highlight its signature peaty taste. Then American white oak cask malt whiskies (aged approximately 18 years) were used to provide body, give depth and to enhance Hakushu’s refreshing, crisp characteristics. Fresh with Citric notes.
