Description

Vieux Château des Combes is located in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, just five kilometres away from the historic village of Saint-Emilion. Planted on clay and limestone soils it is a Merlot dominant blend with inclusions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Maturation takes place in French oak for 12 months. Totally opaque black crimson red colour with a dark crimson red hue. Elevated aromas of blackcurrant intermingle with a hint of liquorice and dark cherries over some earth and subtle cedary tobacco characters. Medium bodied and elegant with a soft fleshy feel this lovely Bordeaux is already quite approachable. Showing good richness flavours of blackcurrant and to a lesser extent mulberries dominate over a back drop of earth, light tobacco and spicy cedar. Slightly dryish but otherwise very well integrated finely grained tannins. Finishes well with an aftertaste of blackcurrant, mulberries, earth and spicy cedar. An under the radar Estate that should be snapped up before it gathers more attention and the price starts to rise.
