The 2016 Rabbit Island Pinot Gris is a blend of several of our Pinot Gris vineyard blocks.
This allows us to take advantage of the varying clones and nuances each site offers. The unirrigated Redwood Valley vineyard is situated on a gently sloping, north facing clay site which optimises the heat of the sun. These Pinot Gris vines have root systems going down in the clay which have been established over the past 30 years and therefore these top graed vines have a very sturdy foundation.
Our Queen Victoria vineyard is our new vineyard block located in the Motueka area. This exciting block has ve year old vines on very stony, free draining soils and produces bright,
exuberant fruit characters.
The Rabbit Island vineyard is situated on a wide river at. The soil is gravelly loam, which is very sandy and free draining. These vineyards are about 1.5 kilometres from the sea, which helps moderate temperatures.
The 2016 Rabbit Island Pinot Gris is varietal and expressive. Ripe stone fruit together with delicate oral notes are inviting on the nose. The palate is full and generous showing succulent Autumn pear and hints of warm gentle ginger. The wine has a long, flavoursome finish.
